Time for Spring Cleaning - The digital way!
With Spring coming up (Thursday!) a lot of people start the traditional spring cleaning, whether that means reorganizing or deep cleaning or a little bit of both, you shouldn't forget to clean your digital space!
After a few weeks of dealing with a slow running Mac machine I decided to figure out what could possibly cause this problem. It didn't take long to figure out after clicking "Get Info" on the hard drive and finding that my 160 GB hard drive is FULL! I have 2gb left... and I've been told it needs a little more than that to run at optimal speed.... haha.
So what is using up all my hard drive you may ask? Well, to my surprise.... Photos! I know, how unbelievable! Actually, I think Jason just about fell out of his chair after I told him that 70 gb was photos which equals to almost 14K photos in Iphoto. I think I've almost hit my limit. That got me wondering... is there a limit to how many photos Iphoto will actually hold?? Well I managed to find a thread on the apple site addressing just that, is there a limit? Yes, its 250,000 photos. I think to reach that limit, I'll need a much much bigger hard drive! Instead of attempting to max out my Iphoto, I suppose its about time to start cleaning it out. That will be a huge task that will hopefully start tonight!
After cleaning up Iphoto, that takes care of about half of my hard drive. The other half... well, that's a mixture between music and other random files - some including movie files that should be condensed and archived off onto the external drive.
So my first priority this year is my digital spring cleaning. Once that is done, I'll move on to the more traditional spring cleaning!
Have fun with all your spring cleaning ... and hopefully soon it'll actually feel like spring outside!
