Snow was the word of the weekend!
We arrived Friday afternoon to find quite a bit of snow on the ground, which was much more than what was in Ann Arbor or Pittsburgh.
While Melissa and I were busy in the kitchen, Madison had gotten her hands on a pan and some tealight candles. It wasn't noticed until she told us dinner was ready! She was cooking the fish. How cute!
Saturday afternoon we headed out to Petoskey to do some shopping and have dinner to celebrate Dad K's 60th birthday.
After a slow drive through the snow to Petoskey we finally made it. It took a little longer to get there than planned, so most of the stores were getting ready to close, so we only made it to a few. After shopping around downtown Petoskey we headed over to a resturant called The Side Door. The food was really good! It'll definately have to be on our list of places to go next time we're in the area.
After dinner we made a quick pit-stop at Walmart where the guys looked at their electronics and the girls shopped in the beauty department. Of course everyone found something to buy. I do have to say, the guys found great deals. Jason got a speaker system for his PSP for $15.00 and its regular price was $59.98! What a deal! Pete also found a deal on some cables for his xbox.
Melissa and I being the scrapbookers that we are decided this should be scrapbooked and so we needed pictures... so we got out of the truck to take pictures!
We also ended up stopping again because there were elk in a feild next to the road and they were pretty close to the road. It was very cool to see... but the pictures didn't really turn out because it was so dark out.
We got back to the cabin around 8 or 9 Saturday night and for the most part the cars were clear of snow. I was up around 8am Sunday morning and looked out the window to find the cars completely covered in probably about 4-6 inches of snow!! It had snowed all night long.
Sunday was Dad K's 60th birthday. The plan to celebrate was to have Granny, Uncle Scott and Aunt Gail over for Superbowl chicken. And of course to have some birthday cake!
Before all the birthday celebrations started we did some organizing in the shed and the guys went out on the 4 wheelers again.
Before dinner and before it got dark out, I decided that I had to get a ride on the 4 wheelers before the weekend was over. So I suited up and headed out and talked Jason into going with me. While he was getting dressed I went out for some pictures.
Ok Ok.... it wasn't really that deep! haha! Uncle Scott thought it would be a funny picture to show everyone who doesn't get any real snow!
We made it back from our trip on the 4 wheelers just in time for dinner. Melissa made Superbowl Chicken for dinner. It was really good! She also made carrot cake for dessert ... also very good!
Happy 60th Birthday!!
Then after dinner and cake the guys moved the futon to the new office from the loft upstairs.
The night slowly came to an end and we had to start packing our stuff up to prepare for our departure the next day. Since Jason and I had to drive all the way back to PA, we had to leave fairly early Monday morning. So we packed up as much as we could Sunday night so that Monday morning all that was left was loading the truck.
Monday morning we woke up to find that Dad K was pretty sick. So after helping Pete load the truck, Jason ran out to the store to pick a few things up for him before we headed out. While waiting for Jason to get back, Melissa and Madison walked to the end of the drive way and back and played in the snow for a little bit. They quickly decided it was too cold outside and went back into the warmth of the cabin.
Jason soon arrived back to the cabin and everyone said their good-byes before we left for our long trip home. We stopped in Gaylord to get gas and some breakfast. Everyone was pretty tired and took a nap in the car and before we knew it we were in Manchester!
Jason and I helped unload Pete and Mels truck and loaded our truck before heading to my mom's house to pick up the dog. We were able to have a quick lunch with my mom before we got on the road for our second half of the trip. We made it home around 8:20 pm.... it was a long day! But a very fun weekend!
